During the holidays, I loathe racking my brain trying to figure out the perfect gift to buy each and every someone.
I used to scour the aisles of malls and stores with no hope in site.
Then about only a few years ago, I started making my gifts.
People love homemade stuff right? I mean you took the time to make them something that they thought you would enjoy.
Now, nine times out of ten I make my gifts for all special occassions.
Birthdays, Christmas, Easter, etc.
I send all my family back home tins of homemade cookies for the holidays!
They are always a big hit. This year I now have gotten orders for specific types of cookies they want.
So what better than then a cookie swap to celebrate the holiday season!
I partook in the Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap last year and enjoyed it so much that I signed up again!
Last year I made chocolate hazelnut crinkle cookies and they were a hit!
This year I wanted to do something that was the epitome of Christmas.
Thus the peppermint snowball cookie was born.
I used this snowball ball cookie recipe as a base.
Instead of pecans I used walnuts. I used peppermint extract instead of vanilla.
I rolled the baked cookies in peppermint candies to give it that Christmas charm!
Thankfully I heard from all three of the bloggers that I sent my cookies to!
Not only did they arrive in one piece but they thought they were yummy too!
In return, I received three dozen delicious cookies.
The first I received were these yummy chocolate chip oreo cookies.

Peppermint Walnut Snowball Cookies
For the cookie
- 2 cups unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tsp. peppermint extract
- 4 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 cups walnuts
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 3/4 cup chocolate chips
- About 2/3 cup powdered sugar, sifted
- About 1/3 cup crushed peppermint candies
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Cream butter and 1 cup of the powdered sugar until smooth. Add in the peppermint extract.
Mix in the flour, walnuts, salt until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
Roll into balls and place on a greased or lined sheet pan.
Bake for about 15 minutes, until just baked through.
Let cool on pan until cookies are cool enough to handle. Roll the cookies in the remaining powdered sugar and peppermint candies.
Transfer to a cooling rack to cool. Repeat the rolling process again once cookies have fully cooled if desired.
